To all of my patients:

Ten years ago, after the joyous experience of delivering more than 5,000 babies, I delivered my last baby. It was a bittersweet moment for me, which I expressed in these words:

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.…So I saw that there is nothing better for a man than to enjoy his work, because that is his lot. For who can bring him to see what will happen after him?” Ecclesiastes 3:1,22

Now the time has come for still another moment of change, time for full retirement. And as I write this I clearly understand what the poet meant when he wrote that “parting is such sweet sorrow.”

Recent vacation trips have convinced me that I need to spend more time with my wife, our children and our grandchildren. And being in solo practice, there is no easy way to accomplish that gradually. So please accept my deepest apology for this short notice.

I will see patients through August 24, 2011, and then be available in the office through September 15, 2011, to answer your questions, refill your prescriptions, and discuss other possible physicians based on your preference and needs.

Many of you will require only a summary copy of your chart. Others may prefer a complete copy of your chart. Please complete the PDF form linked here and submit to the office prior to September 15.

As for the verse “that there is nothing better for a man than to enjoy his work,” I can assure you that I have enjoyed every day of the past 42 years. My cup has been filled over and over again with blessings. I will miss it immensely, but my “season for every activity under heaven” leads me now in a different direction. And as I travel this new path in my life, I leave with thousands of wonderful memories to keep me company on this journey.

Thank you for having entrusted your care to me. My prayer is that I have earned that trust.
