Dr Dan's Family | Professional Bio | Intro

Dan B. Stephens, M.D., FACOG
"Doctor Dan"

I grew up in Ft Smith, Arkansas, working in my family's small grocery store. That store put me through the University of Arkansas as well as the University of Arkansas Medical School. In fact, I worked at the Stephens' Grocery every summer until my Internship.

In Arkansas, everyone is a Razorback fan, with half of the home football games played at the University (Fayetteville) and half at the Medical School (Little Rock.) As a member of the Marching Razorback Band, I missed very few games.

When I chose Grady Memorial Hospital for my internship, I met Mary Lou Hasty, a native Atlantan, who finished Nursing School at Grady just as I finished my internship.

Between Internship and my OB-GYN Residency back at Grady, Mary Lou and I married and I served in the U.S. Air Force at MacDill AFB in Tampa.

We've been blessed with two wonderful sons, Bryan and Karl and they have given us two daughters, Linda and Liz. Bryan and Linda and their two children, Gil, (2003) and Ann Marie (2005) live close by in Marietta. Karl and Liz and Sterling (2006) live in Savannah and we see them as often as possible as well as visit by web video.

While my work has also been my main hobby, I have always enjoyed being involved in the community, especially our church and the school our boys attended. Along the way I learned to fly single engine aircraft and, more lately, have acquired a love of golf. I've been the Chairman of the Cobb County Health Deaprtment since 1994.

Giving up the obstetrical part of my practice in 2001 has been a mixed blessing. After having delivered over 5,000 babies, I still miss that particular miracle of seeing life begin. The flip side is a big one…finding more time for some of the travel I promised my wife and time to enjoy our grandchildren.
